Floral Art
If you asked me when flowers first piqued my interest, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. But, I can give you all the reasons why I love flowers and how I turned that love into a hobby. My favorite season is Spring. Why? That’s when the flowers start to bloom and life begins again. There’s really no such thing as an ugly flower—any imperfections create uniqueness—and no matter the flower, there is always a bouquet where it will belong. Every flower blooms with such beautiful colors and brightens up a room.
I began arranging flowers when I completed undergrad. I loved the bouquet my mother gave me and I arranged it in multiple vases before drying out the flowers—pressing and hanging. How could I preserve these flowers that represent a change in my life? A displayable keepsake! So I decided to make a shadow box. But I didn’t stop there. I started making floral arrangements for professors as a thank you and then began decorating my apartment with colorful bouquets.
“Shadow boxes are a great way to give another life to flowers when they begin to wilt in a vase. This customizable type of art lets you add in new flowers days, weeks, months, or even years later!” - Tierney riccitelli
While I do this just for fun, it’s motivating to have my friends and family tell me how much they love my floral shadow boxes or bouquets. I have even had requests to create ones for others.
Creating these pieces take time and patience. You never know how a flower will really dry, sometimes they lose color or change shapes. They may look beautiful in a bouquet but dry and look completely different.
